It's important to remember that, as well as manufacturing home lifts, Wessex also maintain them, and have been doing so for over 40 years. We've therefore come to learn a thing or two about how to improve the longevity of home lifts. With that in mind, here are 3 easy things you can do:

A VM and its wheelchair user.

1. Enter and Exit Carefully

The Wessex Home Lift Range is sturdy and robust in design; however, a little TLC when entering and exiting the lift can make all the difference. With wheelchairs getting bigger, heavier and more powerful, a wrong turn or bump when entering the lift could potentially cause some damage.

Luckily, when buying a Home Lift through Wessex, one of our friendly and experienced surveyors will measure your wheelchair and help you to determine the size of lift most suited to your needs. A lift that correctly fits your wheelchair will help you to manoeuvre in and out the lift with ease. Always ask a Wessex trained surveyor or OT when considering a Through Floor Lift.

2. Regular Servicing and Maintenance Contracts

When installed, your lift would have been commissioned and inspected to ensure safety and reliability. The Homelift should give you many years of service as long as regular maintenance is carried out. At Wessex, we recommend that your Homelift is serviced and checked every 6 months by a trained, competent technician.

3. Keep it Clean

Our outside Platform Lifts are easy to keep clean; they don’t require special or hard to come by cleaning products and cleaning your lift will take no time at all.

Before cleaning, please remember to switch off the unit at the mains supply switch and press the emergency stop button. We recommend the lift paintwork is cleaned once a month with a damp cloth. You can even use a quality car shampoo with wax, but remember; do not use solvents to clean this product!
